What are the 7 Secrets to Happiness

“Happiness”, a word such a commonplace, hardly alien to anyone. We all are desperately in the pursuit of happiness,  by hook or by crook, seeking happiness. The twist is that happiness is not something you achieve; it follows. When you work on transforming your inner world when you work on being at peace and serene in spite of all the mess you are in today, you will start feeling some manipulations within and happiness will follow, you will be able to feel it.

Here are a few secrets to being happy ever after.

Look Beyond:

Mostly every single thing you do, every action you take, be it a conscious or a sub-conscious one, is simply because you aspire to be happy. Most of us run after all sorts of sense pleasures as we are sure that will bring us some happiness, and it does bring momentary delight. But then you are trapped, you are enslaved. That is being mentioned as Rajasik happiness in the Bhagavad Gita. Such form of happiness sounds good and pleasing initially but detrimental to you in the long run. Be Yourself:

You must start looking deeper, diving within. That will change your perception towards everything, towards life. You should devote time to yourself, at least an hour of the day to do the things you like. That can be reading, jotting down your thoughts, praying. meditating, or just sitting by yourself.

Soul Searching:

You should spend some time now and then in solitude, start observing yourself, create a space for yourself, introspect your actions, thoughts, words, motives, and intentions. Just leave aside all the responsibilities for that time being. Just be yourself, know yourself. There will be a phase of initial struggle when you try contemplating on your inner reflections. To put up with the initial unpleasantness, you need constant hammering of your negative reflections and diverting them towards realistic positivity. Once you start working on your reflections, by putting up with the period of initial sorrow and struggle, you end up rejoicing Sattvik happiness. You end up having a clear and calm intellect.

Pep Talk:

Visualizations and affirmations are very handy tools that make you happy in the long run. Start your day with a smile, as soon as you wake up. Look into the mirror, wear a broad smile, fake it even on days when you do not feel like and you do not have any specific reason to. Fake it, until it gets into a habit. Say a few positive affirmations, visualize them with all your might, try to connect to them and find ways to make them work. These self-pep talks help you refresh, make you tap your potential to the maximum and make you happy, to say the least.

Give what you have:

Try sharing whatever you have with those in need. Volunteer for some social causes, donate to the needy if you can, if not shower your love for the people around you, show them you care. Last but not the least thank the Lord, that you could cheer someone. Do not think of the returns, just share with all your heart what you have.

Gratefulness:

Often we tend to neglect what we have and focus on what we don’t. Be grateful for the little joys you have. Right now, at this hour, one may not have enough to meet his daily needs, one may not have a hand to hold on, a friend or family to fall back upon. Be grateful for having all that, appreciate what you have, these will make you feel satisfied and obviously happy. Stop looking at what you don’t possess, work for your dreams, but do not take for granted the blessings you have today. Remember, these are a dream for someone else.

Forgive and Forget:

Forgive even if the person does not deserve your forgiveness. Trust me, it leads to a sense of freedom and eternal satisfaction. You will be free from hatefulness; free from the garbage that you bore till date. It will lead to a sense of calmness and peace of mind. Go a step ahead, pray for them, their well-being, fake your prayers initially; eventually, the prayers turn out to be a part of your life. You will be filled with selfless love and happiness.
